SVICCAR, Tirupati, in association with the Tata Cancer Care Foundation and its partner centers SVICCAR, RCHRC, and Center for Oncopathology, successfully conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program in Oncopathology on March 29, 2026. Titled “Best Practices in Onco-Pathology – One-Day Workshop on Practical Onco-Pathology,” the workshop brought together oncologists, pathologists, and postgraduate students for a focused academic exchange on the practical aspects of cancer pathology.
The program was designed to strengthen understanding of the critical role pathology plays in cancer diagnosis and treatment planning. Expert-led sessions covered essential topics such as grossing of oncology specimens, minimal dataset reporting, frozen section decision-making, and interpretation of H&E slides prior to immunohistochemistry (IHC). Participants also explored the differences between synoptic and narrative reporting, along with specimen-specific reporting in head and neck, breast, gastrointestinal, and gynecological cancers.
The CME featured highly interactive discussions aimed at enhancing accuracy, consistency, and clinical relevance in oncopathology reporting. Adding to the academic engagement, the event included a quiz competition, poster presentations, and a valedictory session with feedback, certificate distribution, and open-house discussions.
Dr. Prasanth Penumadu, Medical Director, SVICCAR, emphasized that accurate and standardized pathology reporting is the foundation of effective cancer care. He noted that such initiatives promote better clinical decision-making and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
The workshop concluded successfully, reinforcing the importance of precise pathology in guiding multidisciplinary cancer treatment and care.
